Who I am
My name is Salem Rot, otherwise known as Salem Stabbz. I am a professional body piercer working out of Freestyle Tattoo Studio and Sister’s Inked.
I currently have two years of professional body piercing experience and I have been loving EVERY single minute of it!
From the simple lobe, to the complex, the weird and the wonderful; I’m here for it all.
I started off working our of a piercing franchise (I know, I know.) as piercing was something that I had always wanted to pursue.
As I went along in the start of my career, I very quickly excelled to the title of 2IC and Store Trainer - this is where my eyes really started opening up. I became so much more invested in not just the technique of body piercing, but the finer, grittier details of it too.
From the infection control, to the anatomy and biological aspects to the safer practices and tailored stigmas around what is genuine risk and what is not really intrigued me to not just pierce, but to BE a piercer. One that gets into the finer details and really knuckles down into each and every aspect of piercing to make it safer, more hygienic and more seamless for you, the client.
I started exploring the world of the APP and the AUPP and did a LOT of research on Jim Ward, the guy who made body piercing what it is today and I stumbled upon one very obvious fact - body piercing would not just become my career, it would become who I was outside of the studio as well as in.
My 5-year goal.
Of course no-one can have a life-calling career without a thought out plan of what they want to accomplish within that career.
Throughout the constant mentions of the AUPP and the APP, I’m sure you’re wanting to know the answer to the burning question: Are you an APP/AUPP member?
Well, no. Not yet anyway!
Being a member of a not-for-profit organisation that helps bring regulation, education and guidance in the body piercing industry is not as simple as filling out a simple form or questionnaire. I gotta do WORK.
The membership requirements are extremely thorough and detailed, which although is highly condemned, it is also very expensive and a very lengthy process. But, I will accomplish this regardless.
Everything that I require to become an AUPP/APP member is going to take years of hard work, dedication and most likely some blood, sweat and tears, but this is exactly what I have planned for.
I aspire to be one of the best of the best and aspire to eventually pass down my knowledge to others. I want to introduce as many health and safety practices into my work as humanly possible because in an industry that is not currently regulated and people can just happily sit at a mall window and have a literal gun put to their ears to get “pierced”, something has to change and I want to be a part of that change.
I hope to see you on the journey.
